Green Tip of the Month from the St. Luke "Green" Committee:
“I take water for granted and assume there will be clean water for drinking and cooking, warm water for cleansing and fresh water for our garden. My travels have shaken me out of complacency, however. When I witness women walking for hours and then standing in line to fill a bucket with water, I realize both the precious gift and human necessity of water.”*
Rev. Mark Hanson, ELCA Bishop * from www.yourplacematters.net
According to the University of Minnesota Extension Service, the typical household of four uses 260 gallons of water each day. Much of this is used in the bathroom. Toilets use 40% of the total, showers/baths and faucets use 35%. By contrast, 15% is used in the kitchen, and 10% for washing clothes. Taking shorter showers, turning off your faucet while brushing your teeth, and running a full dishwasher will help to conserve water at home. Installing low-flow products in your home will help as well.
